Peter (1771-1845) and Polly Smith (1781-1850) Sharpsteen1

In about 1796, Peter Sharpsteen married Polly Smith, born 9 March 1781 in New York and daughter of Elijah Smith and Mary Warner.  They had the following known children:

Robert  b. 11 August 1798 in Washington, New York . d. 20 July 1864 in Ontario Co., New York .  Married Mary Ann Bellows4

  b. c.1799 in Duchess Co., NY. m. James Herrick 5 Nov 1815.  d. 9 Feb 1861 in Michigan.

b 25 Sep 1802 in Dutchess Co., NY. m Abigail Johnsond. d. 14 Nov 1843 in Washington Twp., Macomb Co., MI

Catherine Densa "Densy" (Rood)(Sleight)
 According to (5) Catherine was born in 1804 in Greenfield Center, Saratoga Co., New York.  She married first Johnathan Rood (b. 1756, Hadley, Mass) then after his death in 1847 in Rushford, NY she married second Elias Sleight (b. c.1800) in about 1848.  According to (2) Densa was born c.1804 and married first Jonathan Rood (c. 1826), a Revolutionary soldier (b. 1756) then married second Elias Sleight before 1860.  d. 25 Mar 1877 in Cayuga Co., NY.

David  b 24 Sep 1806 in Greenfield Center, Saratoga Co., NY.  m. Callista Merriam.  d 25 Feb 1879 in Bay Port, Huron Co., MI.

James  b. 24 Dec 1810 in Dutchess Co., NY m. Naomi Westbrook. d 13 Mar 1881 in Romeo, Macomb Co., MI.

Smith  b 8 Nov 1815 in Dutchess Co., NY.  m. Louisa Luttenton (1820 - 1913).  d 23 Sep 1873 in Galesburg, Kalamazoo Co., MI.

The families  of Peter and his brother John H. apparently move westward through New York and finally to Michigan.  

Peter died in Romeo, Macomb Co., MI  on 16 Sep 1845 and Polly died there on 27 Aug 1850. 3

"The Catherine Sharpsteen listed as [Jonathan Rood's] wife, was listed as Densa in his will in 1839 and Dency in 1860 after she remarried Elias Sleight. I will tell you my Jonathan Rood was a Revolutionary Soldier and was 71 at the time my GGGrandfather was born in 1827. Densa, his wife was 23."
