On 27 Jun 1850 in Allen Co., OH, Lavisa Bassitt married Thomas Robinson Ward (b. 13 May 1827 in Champaign Co., OH and son of Joseph Ward and Catherine Harner Ward).1 His family lived near Hog Creek (i.e. the Ottawa River) in Bath Twp., Allen Co., OH in the second European settlement in Allen County.
In about 1859, Thomas and Lavisa moved to Iowa. Lavisa died in childbirth on 10 Feb 1862 near Troy Mills, Linn Co., Iowa at the age of 29 years and was buried at Lower Spring Grove Cemetery, east of Troy Mills, IA.
Thomas was a miller and Methodist. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. Unadilla Lodge #299 in Troy Mills, IA. His second wife was the widow of his brother, George. Thomas lived with daughter "Mrs. M. Husshouser" when he died on 23 Dec 1907 in Upper Selah, WA. He was buried in Tahoma, Yakima Co., WA.
Lavisa and Thomas had the following children:
Joseph 2 b. 1 May 1851 in Allen Co., OH - 17 Feb 1901 in Lynch, NE, m. 19 Aug 1869 in Troy Mill, Buchanan Co., IA, Julia Ann Holman Ward 24 Jun 1851 in Troy Mills, Linn Co., IA - 12 Mar 1937 in Lynch, NE. Joseph was a farmer. Joseph and Julia were buried at Pleasant View Cemetery, Lynch, NE.
Sarah Jane b. 14 May 1852 in Allen Co., OH - 2 Mar 1854 in Allen Co., OH. Died of brain fever.
Samuel b. 5 Jul 1854 in Allen Co., OH, m. Margaret Elliott Ward.
Charles b. 2 Jan 1856 in Allen Co., OH, m. Rose UNKNOWN Ward. Charles was a carriage painter.
Laura Ann (Morse) b. 17 Jul 1857 in Allen Co., OH - 18 Jun 1928, m. 27 Sep 1883 Robert Morse, 29 Apr 1861 - 30 Mar 1937.
William Harner 31 Dec 1858 in Allen Co., OH - 15 May 1927 in Washington, m. 16 Jan 1881 Nelle M. Clark Ward d. 30 Sep 1953. William was a farmer and a physician and eventually moved to Boise, ID. He was buried in Clark Cemetery, Central City, IA. His funeral record said he had sisters "Mrs. N Hulhauser, Selah, WA" and "Mrs. G. A. Walker, Selah, WA".
Eliza Jane "Janie" 13 Oct 1860 in Iowa - 12 Oct 1939 in Kansas. In the 1880 census, she was living in the household of her aunt, Mary Ann Ward Fay.
Louisa 10 Feb 1862 in Iowa - 10 Feb 1862. Died at birth with her mother.
