Parents of Marilla Edgecomb

Marilla Edgecomb (b. c.1813) and Josiah DeLong (b. c.1806)

Key words: Josiah DeLong, Josiah De Long, Marilla Edgecomb DeLong, Marilla Edgecomb De Long, Marilla DeLong, Marilla De Long, Josiah and Marilla DeLong, Josiah and Marilla De Long

Marilla Edgecomb was married in about 1832 to Josiah DeLong, b. about 1806 in Pennsylvania or Ohio, d. 1870. It is not known if they were married before they came to Allen County, Ohio or after they were already living there.

The known children of Josiah and Marilla were:7

William A., 1832 - after 1860.
Elizabeth, b. 1834 in Ohio.
Samuel, 1835 in Ohio - 23 Aug 1907 in Ft. Branch, Gibson Co., IN. m. (1) 2 May 1868 in Gibson Co., IN, Mary Jane Lamphar, c. 1844 in Gibson Co., IN - 1885 in Ft. Branch, Gibson Co., IN. m. (2) 17 Oct 1889 in Gibson Co., IN, Lucinda Jones, b. Sep 1865.
Augustus, b. 1837 in Ohio.
Hester, b. 1840 in Ohio.

In 1840, Josiah DeLong was living in Lima . On 10 Oct 1840, Josiah bought 40 acres of land near Paulding in Van Wert County (but which is now in Paulding County). It is not known whether Josiah and Marilla moved there from Lima. By 1850 they had moved to Pigeon Twp., Vanderburgh Co. (near Evansville), Indiana where Josiah was a tavern keeper. They moved north to Gibson County and in 1860 Josiah was a plaster living in Patoka. They were still living in Gibson County in Johnson Twp. in 1870 , and their grandson Mathew Augustus, age 14 was living with them at that time.  On 11 Jul 1879, Marilla applied for a Civil War pension for Josiah.8  Since Josiah and Marilla were apparently not listed in the 18880 census, so presumably they had died by then.  Although their burial place is not known, there are many DeLongs buried at Walnut Cemetery, Ft. Branch, Gibson Co., Indiana and some graves have no markers.
